Presidents Welcome

"It’s close to midnight, and something evil’s lurking in the dark (Over-award). Under the moonlight, you see a sight that almost stops your heart (Drops, Withdrawals and R2T4). You try to scream, but terror takes the sound before you make it (Oh SAP). You start to freeze, as horror looks you right between the eyes, you’re paralyzed (Program Review)."

If you find yourself feeling this way, then YOU need to attend the Fall 2019 KASFAA Conference, and "Go Into the Light". The goal of this conference is to provide you with the information and tools needed to understand and avoid some of the top 10 compliance issues that colleges and universities face today. We know that these topics can keep financial aid administrators up at night, but the fall KASFAA program committee has planned a conference that will have you "Going Into the Light" and help these topics to not be so scary. So it is time to face these issues head on, and attend the Fall 2019 conference October 9-11, 2019 at the Holiday Inn Louisville, East in Louisville, Kentucky. The Program Committee has worked hard to bring you informative, useful, and interesting sessions, and we hope you’ll join us for a few days of networking, training, professional development, and of course, fun!

We are excited to welcome back the one and only Dave Bartnicki. Dave, our Federal Department of Education trainer, will be with us for the entire conference. We are elated to have Dana Kelly attending the conference from NASFAA to present on numerous topics. We will also welcome SASFAA President, Bill Spiers.

You don't want to miss our pre-conference and post-conference activities. The New Aid Workshop will be offered on Wednesday morning, which is an opportunity for our new aid administrators to get a chance for an intensive introduction to the financial aid profession. NASFAA U sessions will be offered as well. On Wednesday, we will offer four NASFAA U courses- Cost of Attendance, Packaging, TEACH Grant and Student Eligibility. On Friday, we will offer two NASFAA U courses – Professional Judgment and Need Analysis.

We are excited to partner with Family Scholar House as our conference charity this year. Family Scholar House serves disadvantaged residential and nonresidential single moms and dads and their children with a comprehensive, holistic continuum of care that meets them where they are located and empowers them toward their educational, career and family goals. We share many of the same values and our missions are closely aligned. We will have a silent auction open from Wednesday until the close of Thursday night’s costume party and trivia. We will also have a raffle throughout the conference. Please help us raise money in support of this wonderful non-profit organization!

Before heading out on your own for dinner Wednesday night, stop by the President’s reception and grab an appetizer while you catch up with old friends or make new friends. Be sure to stop by our Vendor tables throughout the conference and thank them for always supporting KASFAA!

What would a Halloween themed conference be without a costume party? We know you are looking for an excuse to dress up in your favorite Halloween costume, so bring your costumes to dress up individually or dress up as an office. We plan to have a lot of fun, and with your participation, it will be a ghoulish time!

Conference registration is now open! The hotel group rate is only $114.00 per night plus tax, but you must make your reservations by September 24h. The pass code is FA9. Reserve your room now!

KASFAA will offer a one-day conference rate. You are welcome to choose the day you wish to attend, and pay only $60 (plus membership dues, if not already paid) to attend all functions and sessions that day. We hope this will make it possible for more members to participate in our conference.

We look forward to seeing you at the conference!

Don’t be scared, and go into the light!
