The Nigerian Prince Never Left: Cybersecurity in the Modern Era and The Cost of One Click (Concurrent Session)
April 9, 2026 | 2:30 PM-3:30 PM | Bluegrass Ballroom B
The infamous “Nigerian prince” scam—and its many variations—still exists for this one simple reason: it only has to convince one person. While phishing attacks have evolved far beyond poorly written emails, the underlying strategy remains the same—exploit trust, curiosity, urgency, or even tickle one’s ego to gain access to personal and financial information.
This session examines how phishing campaigns succeed with the advent of AI (Artificial Intelligence) by targeting individuals rather than systems, introducing sophisticated, believable messages that appear trustworthy on the surface. Attendees will learn how phishing tactics have adapted over time, how even well-trained users can be fooled, and the real-world impact of a single click. Participants will leave with practical, cost-effective strategies to strengthen user awareness, reduce risk, and respond effectively when phishing inevitably reaches someone willing to click.
